Noetic Learning Math
The second grade team from Roosevelt School won a TEAM ACHIEVEMENT award for their TEAM score in this spring's Noetic Learning Math contest. Noetic Learning is a challenging math contest for grades 2-6. There are TWO contests - fall and spring each year. Students can have their parents sign them up and give permission to take the contest via the C.R.E.A.T.E./G&T website from Mrs. Hafers. Each year students from Cherry Hill and Roosevelt accept the "challenge" and we have had many students be recognized for HONOR ROLL (top 10% in the country) as well as HONORABLE MENTION (top 50% ). This was the first year we had a TEAM (by grade level and school) be recognized. Congratulations!
Seed Travelers
Mrs. Harle's second grade students created a steam project where they created seed helpers using the STEAM process. The seed helpers needed to display how animals help seeds move away from the parent plant.
Iron Giraffe Well Challenge
Mrs. DelRosso's students have been raising money over the past few years to help bring clean water to South Sudan. The idea to raise money stemmed from a novel read in Mrs. DelRosso's class. A Long Walk to Water is a short novel written by Linda Sue Park and published in 2010. It blends the true story of Salva Dut whose story is based in 1985, a part of the Dinka tribe and a Sudanese Lost Boy, and the fictional story of Nya whose story is based in 2008, a young village girl that was a part of the Nuer tribe. Park used this book as a platform to support Dut's organization, Water for South Sudan.
Here is a letter from Lynn Malooly, Executive Director, to the students of Roosevelt School:
Dear Dear Ms. DelRosso and Roosevelt Elementary School:
We are pleased to report that Water for South Sudan has drilled the well that you sponsored. We have now drilled more than 490 wells since 2005, and we are deeply grateful for the continued support from donors like you. WFSS will continue to provide access to clean water and hygiene education, led by our South Sudan team. Although parts of South Sudan continue to experience unrest, we have been able to continue drilling wells safely. Our work continues to provide grassroots development and sustainability for rural villages and schools. The installation of a new well can also serve as a starting point for conflict resolution between different groups, thus bringing peace and stability. Attached please find photos of the well that your donation helped drill. Your well is located in the village of Maker Akech in Gogrial East State, South Sudan. The village chief is Mangong Madut Akuei. The GPS coordinates of your well are 8.333254 28.293498. To view this location, copy and paste these numbers into a browser and hit “Enter” on your keyboard, then click on the map. (You may need to zoom out to see the entire area.) Thank you for your support and generosity, which is now providing clean water—and a new future—to the people in Maker Akech village, South Sudan.
Very truly yours,
Lynn Malooly

River Edge Welcomes New Technology Coach

Hello! My name is Kristen Marco, and I am the new Instructional Technology Coach at Roosevelt School. I received a Bachelors in History and Masters in Elementary Education from Quinnipiac University. While attending Quinnipiac, I played both field hockey and lacrosse. Post-graduation, I obtained an ESL certification from Manhattanville College as well as a Supervisor Endorsement from Montclair State University. I started my teaching career in the Bronx, NY where I served as a third-grade teacher. After five years in the Bronx, I accepted a fourth-grade teaching position with Glen Rock Public Schools. During my final three years in Glen Rock, I served as the Gifted and Talented Coordinator and STEM Teacher. While teaching and working with teachers, I developed a passion for technology and its endless possibilities to transform how we meet the needs of our learners. On a personal note, I currently live in Wyckoff with my husband and three daughters aged six, four, and seven months. On the weekends, you can find me cheering on the New York Giants, running, or at a nearby lacrosse or soccer game. I am thrilled to be continuing my career in River Edge!
