NOVEMBER 2017

Veterans Day

The River Edge Veterans Day ceremony was held on Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at Veterans Memorial Park on Continental Avenue.  VFW Post 876 hosted the ceremony, which included participation from students and staff from Cherry Hill and Roosevelt schools. The Roosevelt Student Council president presented a speech and posters to the Veterans, while the Cherry Hill Student Council made a presentation and sang, "Proud to be an American."  Veterans, River Edge Town Officials, and River Edge School Administrators were in attendance. WWII Veteran Mr. Joe Maugeri led the morning's activities and is also pictured below.
Take A Moment To Thank A Veteran

When you see someone in a uniform,
Someone who serves us all,
Doing military duty,
Answering their country’s call,

Take a moment to thank them
For protecting what you hold dear;
Tell them you are proud of them;
Make it very clear.

Just tap them on the shoulder,
Give a smile, and say,
"Thanks for what you’re doing
To keep us safe in the USA!"

This commemorative month aims highlight and share thei Native American culture, traditions, music, crafts, dance, and ways and concepts of life. This gives Native people the opportunity to express to their community, both city, county and state officials their concerns and solutions for building bridges of understanding and friendship in their local area. Edge Schools participates in celebrating ”Native American Heritage Month!" Mrs. Holly Fox, librarian at Roosevelt School, and Mrs. Rebecca DelPriore, librarian at Cherry Hill School have dedicated a section of to Native American Heritage Month with books teachers will be sharing with their classes. Pictured below, are the displays at both school libraries.

Teachers are Forever Learners (part 2)

On November 7, teachers and administrators had and opportunity to learn to use Ozobots!  An Ozobot is a little toy robot that blends the physical and digital worlds while teaching the art of programming. Ozobots use very basic programming, where you train the robots to follow patterns on the surfaces that they roll over.  Ozobot can identify lines, colors, and codes on both digital surfaces, such as an iPad, and physical surfaces, such as paper. You can calibrate the robots to follow lines by holding down a power button. Then you can draw lines for the robot to follow in an app. You can create race tracks for multiple Ozobots to roll over.

, teachers and administrators from Roosevelt, Cherry Hill and New Bridge Center are utilizing this creative technology!  They will be working on these back in the classrooms and in the STEAM Labs with their students in the near future!  Be sure to visit the October 2017 REACH page for more "Teachers are Forever Learners!"

Franklin Institute of Technology Visits River Edge!

Students in River Edge were treated to a special assembly by the Franklin Institute of Technology earlier in November! The audience got to explore the exciting history of flight From Leonardo da Vinci to the space shuttle. They also investigate the Bernoulli principle, and learned how airplane wings provide lift. Mechanical birds, hot air balloons, gliders, and even a rocket launch were used to demonstrate the forces of flight.  Audience participation brought even more enjoyment to the show!  Pictures below represent the students involved in the presentation!
