NOVEMBER 2015

Professional Development

On November 3rd, River Edge Schools teachers attended Professional Development.  Ms. Kelly Scibilia conducted a workshop on "Depth of Knowledge"  (DoK).  Classroom teachers ask, "How do we create rich environments where all students learn at a high level?" A useful tool, Norman Webb's Depth of Knowledge Levels, can help teachers meet that challenge. DoK categorizes tasks according to the complexity of thinking required to successfully complete them.  Ms. Scibilia demonstrated how to successfully emply DoK into everyday practices.  Video at right shows Ms. Scibilia in action!
Veteran's Day 2015
The annual River Edge Veterans Day ceremony was held on November 11, 2013 at Veterans Memorial Park on Continental Avenue.  WWII Veteran Mr. Joe Maugeri led the morning's activities, and staff from Cherry Hill and Roosevelt schools attended the special event. The Student Councils from both Roosevelt and Cherry Hill schools gave speeches and made presentations to honor the Veterans.  Roosevelt School recited the American's Creed, while Cherry Hill School sang, "Proud to Be an American."   Veterans, River Edge Town Officials, and River Edge School Administrators were in attendance.  Pictures below capture the ceremony's events.

Interview With Mr. Henzel

Mr. Henzel became principal of Roosevelt School earlier this year. Two 5th grades students, Matthew Volmar and Jimmy Karpowich, interviewed Mr. Henzel to assess his positive progress thus far in his leadership at Roosevelt School. Mrs. Colleen Poole facilitated the interview to shine a spotlight on Mr. Henzel's return to River Edge Schools.

Google Visits Roosevelt School!

On November 16th, Google Expeditions visited Roosevelt School. Expeditions are guided tours of places schools buses can't go. They are comprised of virtual reality panoramas and are led by a guide or teacher. Google brought a complete Expeditions kit with everything the teachers needed to take students on many journeys.  Students and teachers witnessed the bottom of the sea and the surface of Mars! Below are highlights of the visit!
