Teachers of the Year

Dr
. Stephanie Seigel:  I've had the pleasure of being a school psychologist in River Edge Schools for almost 7 years. I grew up outside of Boston and received my undergraduate degree in psychology from Syracuse University. (Go Orange!) A year after graduation, I began working towards my doctorate in school psychology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and officially earned my Ph.D. in 2014, while at River Edge. I work primarily to provide school-based psychological and case management services that include assessment, intervention, and consultation for Building Bridges and Building Connections students and their families. I also run social skills groups and coping strategy groups, organize our reverse inclusion program (Peer Pals), facilitate social-emotional learning, and provide district-wide trainings to teachers.  I've been able to grow in my role as school psychologist, and I am honored to be recognized at the New Bridge Center Educator of the Year. River Edge is an amazing, wonderful, and warm community, and I'm proud to be a part of it. I look forward to continuing to grow, learn and teach here.

Ms. Kismet Bohajian:
Teaching Academic Support in Cherry Hill School for nine years has been a professionally stimulating experience. Before continuing on for my Masters as a Reading  Specialist, I earned a degree in Elementary Education and Psychology, attending Jersey City State College. Over the past nine years, I have taught reading, writing and math to students in grades K-5. In addition to my academic responsibilities, I have had the privilege of leading the dance troupe. Dance has been a passion of mine since childhood. In 2013 I was awarded a Graduate Fairleigh Dickinson University Mason’s Scholarship to further my education. Recently earning an Orton-Gillingham Certification in 2015, I was afforded the expertise to help primary students overcome reading difficulties. This year, I was appointed coach for the New Jersey Tiered System of Supports Early Grant Project for which our district was fortunate enough to be selected.  I am working with many teachers and supporting their efforts in literacy. It has been an honor and privilege to work with the River Edge School Community and be chosen for the teacher of the year award.

Mr. Scoot Moody:
Mr. Moody was born in Maine.  He and his family moved to upstate NY when Scott was young and he attended public school in Goshen, NY. His original career was selling payroll for ADP, but soon he realized his passion was for teaching. He received his teaching degree through the alternate route program in NJ. He taught for 3 years at CHS, with his 6th grade mentors Bob DeVincentis and Sandy Lautz. He has been teaching at Roosevelt for 21 years now, in grade 6th, 4th and currently now in 3rd. Scott always speaks of how he loves the community of River Edge and it a true honor educating the students of these wonderful families. Scott is blessed to work with a top-notch principal, Mike Henzel and such outstanding teachers on his grade level, Nicole Campbell and Kayla Moran (both whom are worthy of receiving the Teacher of the Year Honor). In Scott's spare time he enjoys spending time with his family and coaching his kids' sports. He likes to exercise, coach basketball at Don Bosco Prep, and spend time at the Jersey Shore.

Author Gordon Korman Visits River Edge Schools

Gordon Korman was born on October 23, 1963 in Montreal, Canada, and grew up mostly in the Toronto area. In his own words,  "My writing career began virtually by accident when I was in 7th grade. The track and field coach had to teach English. For creative writing, he gave us total freedom to work on whatever we wanted for the rest of the year. It was February. That added up to a class period per day for more than four months. The result was my first novel, THIS CAN’T BE HAPPENING AT MACDONALD HALL."

Students were treated to a special visit from Mr. Korman!  He talked about his creative approach, the writing process, and of course, his books.  A few lucky students got to have lunch with the author.  They got to talk with him personally and ask him questions they had about his books and the writing process.  It was a beneficial experience for all involved!

State Fair at Cherry Hill

Mrs. Harle's class held our State Fair on May 2. This project concludes a month long writing unit, Nonfiction Writing in a Content Area. Students researched, wrote, and created these displays showcasing the information and wonders for each state.  Students performed a song where they named all 50 states.  Parents enjoyed learning all about the states as the students answered their questions.

Brain Show Assembly at Roosevelt

The Brain Show came to Roosevelt School! Kids and teachers were able to show off their skills by answering academic and pop culture questions. Teams who answered questions correctly, had do do a dance in order to earn their points! Everyone has a blast dancing, singing and learning!
