R.E.E.F. Brings the Harlem Wizards to River Edge Schools
The River Edge Education Foundation, R.E.E.F., once again brought the Harlem Wizards to River Edge! The Harlem Wizards have celebrated 54 years of Wizardry to date, and put on a show that puts a different spin on basketball. There were sky-high slam dunks, amazing tricks, skillful shots made by the Wizards, and humor in seeing the teachers being good sports and having fun on the court with the team. Comedy, audience participation, action and fun made the fundraiser a huge success! Below are pictures with captions showing the excitement of the evening!
Cherry Hill Visits Ellis Island
In May, Mr. Mario Medici was a guest presenter for the 6th grade classes at Cherry Hill School. In preparation for the upcoming field trip to Ellis Island, Mr. Medici shared a dynamic powerpoint presentation and spoke eloquently about the history of Ellis Island and prepared us for our visit. Mr. Medici captivated the students as well as the teachers! The following week, the 6th graders were well prepared for the trip. Highlights included the award winning film documentary, "Island of Hope, Island of Tears", the Journey's exhibit, and the archives at the museum's American Family Immigration History Center.
The first four pictures below are from Mr. Mario Medici's visit. The rest are from our trip to Ellis Island.

Eco Challenge at Roosevelt
In conjunction with the 5th Grade Biome Unit, Mrs. Dellatorre, Mrs. Fox, Mrs. Lindsay, and Mr. Werner applied for and were invited to participate in the Panasonic Eco Challenge. After researching various environmental issues students broke down into groups, chose an issue focus on, and created an action plan to address their specific issue.
They are now using worms to compost their lunch waste, and have turned old t-shirts into pillows to keep textiles out of landfills. In an effort to save animals from plastics waste students collected bottle caps at lunch and created stepping stones for the garden as well as made bracelets from plastic soda rings. Students also engaged in various park and river clean ups, and brought the need for recycling bins in Memorial Park to the attention of the Parks Department.
