MAY 2015

Board of Education Honors Erika Steinbauer

The River Edge Board of Education honored the late Erika Steinbauer, former Superintendent of the River Edge School District.  Ms. Steinbauer's service and distinguished career in education spanned over thirty years.  Her loyalty to the district was unwavering, starting as a Basic Skills teacher in River Edge, then Principal of Cherry Hill School, and finally Superintendent of Schools.  Mrs. Steinbauer dedicated twenty-seven years of service to River Edge until her retirement in 2010.

A library has been started in honor of Mrs. Steinbauer, who took the time to spread her love of books to the students of River Edge.  She would frequently stop by classrooms in Roosevelt and Cherry Hill Schools to read to the students.  Mrs. Steinbauer truly enjoyed teaching, being with her students, and working along side her staff and faculty.

2015 River Edge Teachers of the Year

Congratulations to the 2014-2015 Teacher's of the Year!
Cherry Hill School: Ms. Kaitlyn Burke (pictured below, left)
  • "As a graduate of Boston College with degrees in Elementary Education, English, as well as Developmental and Educational Psychology with a focus on Special Needs Students, I have found the River Edge community to be one that has challenged me to become the teacher I am today, and for that I am eternally grateful.  I have had the privilege of working within the River Edge School District at Cherry Hill School for six fantastic years.  I began my career teaching second grade.  This past year, 2014-2015, was my first teaching fourth grade.  When not in the classroom with my F.R.O.G.S. (Friendly, Responsible, Organized, Growing Students), I can be found advising Student Council members, performing at the Talent Show, volunteering at the Fun Run, Spring Fling,  and Harlem Wizards Game, and attending my students’ extra-curricular activities whenever possible.  During my time in River Edge, I have been astounded by the support and dedication of the administrators, teaching professionals, and families here, each striving to create the best learning experiences possible for the children of River Edge.  I am honored to be recognized as Cherry Hill School’s Teacher of the Year and look forward to continuing to work, learn, and grow within the River Edge School District in years --to come!"
Roosevelt School: Mrs. Julie Fallon  (pictured below, middle)
  • "My name is Julie Fallon and I have been teaching at Roosevelt Elementary for 7 years. I grew up in River Edge and attended Cherry Hill and River Dell. After graduation I attended Iona College where I played Division I volleyball. Senior year we won our conference and went to the NCAA in Nebraska!! I earned my degree, then went on to get my masters degree in elementary and special education. While in my masters program, I worked as an ABA aide for children with Autism at The Valley Program. After I received my masters, I began to work at Alpine Learning Group as a lead teacher in a self-contained ABA classroom. In 2008 I started working at Roosevelt Elementary School and have loved every minute of it. I have taught in the Resource Center for the past 7 years. While at Roosevelt I have been able to work with such wonderful students and staff. At Roosevelt I am on the Sunshine Committee and SCIP committee. I devote a lot of time in collaborating with my fellow colleagues.  It was an honor to have been selected as Roosevelt School's Teacher of the Year, and I look forward to a bright future in education!"
New Bridge Center: Ms. Ashley Gargiulo (pictured below, right)
  • "During the 2009/2010 school year, had the great opportunity to start my River Edge career as a classroom aide in both Ellen Simpson’s 1st grade classroom and then Angel Linton’s preschool classroom. I was incredibly fortunate to work with these experienced, enthusiastic and knowledgeable teachers. The supportive and positive staff and environment lead me to pursue a permanent teaching position in River Edge. At the end of the school year, I was offered the preschool inclusion teaching position in New Bridge Center and have been loving it ever since.  It is very special to have been nominated and chosen as the Teacher of the Year in New Bridge Center!"

River Edge Students and the Board of Education

Picture

Once a year, the Board of Education invites the Sixth Grade students of both Roosevelt School and Cherry Hill Schools, to participate in a Board of Education meeting.  This past May, students who were interested in participating, were required to write an essay explaining their greatest accomplishments and strengths.  Students were selected, and with the guidance of actual Board Members, thirteen students participated in the Board Meeting to discuss and vote on issues at hand.

Mother's Day at New Bridge Center

In honor of Mother's Day, Mrs. Poole's Kindergarten class celebrated with Mrs. Poole's mother!  The class planted seeds in April in the hopes they would grow in time for Mother's Day in May!  Students were successful as you can see in the slide show below.  Congratulations to the kindergartener's for planning, nurturing and enjoying their hard work!  It was a Happy Mother's Day for all involved!
