Common Core & PARCC Presentation
On Monday, May 12th, an informational session was held to inform parents and the community about Common Core and the PARCC assessment. After an introduction by Dr. Tova Ben-Dov, Superintendent of Schools, Mr. Bill Feldman, Tri-District Curriculum Supervisor, presented an overview of the current curricular shifts.  Ms. Kristen Crawford, Math & Science Coach/Supervisor, discussed the implementation of CCSS in Mathematics in River Edge Schools. Ms. Gianna Appicella, Behaviorist & Supervisor, shared how parents can support student learning.
Finally, Ms. Julia Diminich, Literacy Coach & Supervisor, is one of the presentations highlighted in the video below. Ms. Diminich presented information on the Common Core State Standards in English Language Arts. She demonstrated samples of Reading Standards, Writing Standards, Listening & Speaking Standards, and Language Standards. Reading Standards entail Non-Fiction Reading, as well as Literary Text, and include Foundational Skills - which are the 'building blocks' of our language. Writing Standards are focused on three types of Writing: Narrative, Opinion, and Informational. Samples of ELA standards, as well as PARCC assessment items were presented. Mrs. Diminich discussed how the River Edge District has been implementing the ELA CCSS in all grades, and throughout all content areas.
