MARCH 2016
Read Across America
Read Across America Day was celebrated in River Edge Schools on March 2nd. This is a special day when many people in the United States, particularly students, parents and teachers, join forces to celebrate a love of reading. This nationwide observance coincides with the birthday of Dr. Seuss, who is known for writing children's books. This annual event promotes reading and Language Arts related activities. Across the country, thousands of schools, libraries, and community centers participate by bringing together children and books. Below, Mr. Stan Stevens reads to a class at Cherry Hill School. To the right, Dr. Tova Ben Dov shares her love of reading and shares joins a class to read to an enthusiastic group of scholars! March Mathness
Roosevelt and Cherry Hill School students are getting excited for "March Mathness" to begin next week! March Mathness (yes, the pun is intentional), is a month of math fun for the entire school sponsored by Math CREATE and Mrs. Hafers. Math CREATE runs weekly contests, shares daily math fun facts and organizes the Pi Digits Contest for Pi Day. This year, all the brain teasers and puzzles featured in the weekly contest questions were designed, written and developed by the students themselves. All students can access these weekly contests via the Student Technology Playbook and our webpage, or by clicking here. Small prizes are given for correct solutions but to generate excitement and encourage all students to try, the classroom with the highest participation rate in submitting answers for the month will win the coveted Pi Plate, currently residing at Cherry HIll School in Mrs. Spiegel's 4th grade classroom.
Additional brain teasers and problems are going to be shared with all teachers for their students via a Padlet Wall and a Smore newsletter. These can be worked on throughout the month at any time. We hope to share our love of math with the school and show all students just how much fun math can be!
