JANUARY 2019

Liberty Science Center

Sparking electricity and flashes of fiery gas sparked learning at an assembly presented by Liberty Science Center at our River Edge Schools! It was an interactive look at the two most common forms of energy. Students generated electricity, explored insulators and conductors, and participated in activities with the LSC presenters, all while learning how to avoid the hazards inherent in using natural gas and electricity.

Liberty Science Center wowed and amazed the kids with exciting and thrilling experiments. Students were dazzled by the static electricity experiment, the liquid nitrogen and the suction cup air pressure experiment. Students in all grades get to enjoy indiviual class experiments twice a month, with Liberty Science center in the STEAM lab.

Liberty Science Center (continued)
Several grades participate in lessons brought to the River Edge STEAM Labs by the Liberty Science Center.  Below are photos from a 5th grade lesson at Cherry Hill School.  The lesson was about Ecosystems.  An ecosystem includes all of the living things (plants, animals and organisms) in a given area, interacting with each other, and also with their non-living environments (weather, earth, sun, soil, climate, atmosphere). ... Usually, biotic members of an ecosystemecosystem, together with their abiotic factors depend on each other.  In this lesson, students got to interact with a real, live horseshoe crab!

Geography Bee at Cherry HIll

Do you know which Scandinavian Country is a popular destination for skiers?  This was the winning question in this year's Geography Bee at Cherry Hill School.  The champion, Ashish Panicker, responded with the correct answer to win the title: Sweden! Congratulations also to all of the participants and Sarah Spitzer, who placed  in the competition.  Pictured to the left below are all of the competitors during the contest.  Mr. Armen and the top two finishers are pictured below on the right.
