FEBRUARY 2014

Student Growth Objectives  & Assessments
  • The movie below, "The True Meaning Behind Student Growth Objectives and Assessments" was produced by Mr. Frank Perrone of Roosevelt School.  Two teachers, Mr. Nevin Werner of Roosevelt School, and Ms. AnneMarie Spiegel of Cherry Hill School explain the process.  Ms. Spiegel notes that, "We do all types of assessments to inform our instruction.  These assessments help us to help our students.  Please enjoy this video about why we do assessments."

ART SHOW

                                              River Edge Cultural Center
River Edge elementary school students displayed their artwork during a reception for the eighth annual Art exhibit at the River Edge Cultural Center, which opened on January 29th. Students from Cherry Hill, Roosevelt and New Bridge Center schools were featured in the exhibit. The artwork was on display until February 15th.  A variety of mediums were used, including, drawing, painting, printmaking, ceramics, sculpture, and mixed media.  The pictures below were taken at the Cultural Center.  Below the pictures is a movie of the event created by Mr. Frank Perrone and Ms. Michelle Attardi of Roosevelt School.

New Bridge Center

                                                                                   Parent Night Out!

The students of Building Bridges and Building Connections participated in a game night full of fun.  Administrators, teachers, support staff, specialists and ABA instructional assistants volunteered their evening to foster an enjoyable night for both students and parents.  Parents dropped off their child off at New Bridge Center and enjoyed a night out, while the students played anything from knock hockey, to tic tac toe, to Wii sports and Twister.  The night concluded with a close game of musical chairs and an energetic dance party.

A grateful parent wrote the following to all the administrators, teachers and staff that volunteered their time to make this night happen.

"I wanted to thank you and all the teachers who volunteered last night!  It was much appreciated.  Especially, knowing that you took time away from your families to give us parents a break... I cannot say thank you enough. Once again it proves that our kids are in a very special school/place! Please share with everyone who helped last evening".

One student shared “I felt so happy.  I liked to play with the games because the games are fun.  I liked playing with my friends and teachers.  My favorite part was dancing to the song “Happy.”

Rosemary Kuruc, our Supervisor of Special Services said, “The students were so actively engaged and had spontaneous play.  Adult interaction was minimal.  It was wonderful to sit back and watch the children enjoy themselves.

The night was a success and the staff of Building Bridges and Building Connections have two more parent nights out planned for the rest of the year.  Everyone is looking forward to it!

Below are some pictures of the students enjoying the evening!

New Bridge Center 100th Day of School!
  • On February 21st, the Kindergarten students from New Bridge Center celebrated the 100th day of school! Miss Halabi's class celebrated the occasion by dressing up as 100 year olds! There were many activities that took place on the 100th Day such as presenting 100th Day posters made up of 100 items and making 100 tally mark t-shirts!
  •                                Below is a short iMovie starring Miss Halabi and her students as they celebrated the day.

STUDENT COUNCIL

Cherry Hill School Student Council Food Drive
In honor of Valentine's Day, the Cherry Hill Student Council held a Food Drive during the first two weeks in February.  Students collected necessary food items,  supermarket gift cards,  and dental hygiene products for the Center For Food Action in Hackensack, NJ.  The Food Drive was a huge success and the Center For Food Action was very grateful for the generous donations.  In total, over 800 items were collected!  Grades 3 and 5 tied for bringing in the most items. Both grades were rewarded with an extra 30-minute recess period.  The Cherry Hill Student Council Officers, Class Representatives, and Advisors thank everyone for their generosity and support.
