BOARD OF EDUCATION

Message from Mr. Caleb Herbst,

President, River Edge Board of Education

Dear River Edge Families,

It is hard to believe that the school year is almost over; my sincerest and heartfelt congratulations to the graduating 6th graders from the Class of 2019! I remember my graduation from Roosevelt School only nine years ago... it is a memory you will cherish forever!

The Board of Education has been extremely busy over the past several months, tackling every challenge head on. In April we had our 26th annual student board of education meeting, where 6th graders took the places of board members, principals, administrators, the superintendent, and the business administrator to conduct a legitimate River Edge Board of Education meeting (the adult counterparts were right behind the students to help in anyway and concur on any votes). You can read more about it here:

We are striving to become a more inclusive, welcoming, accepting, and respectful community. To that end, we are exploring new social and emotional programs for students. In addition, we are investigating new and improved communication opportunities to truly hear from the community. There are discussions regarding a third-party climate survey to get feedback from all school stakeholder groups: administration, staff, parents, and of course, students. When the climate survey is available, do your best to fill it out and be truthful in your responses. We can not know what to fix if we do not know what is broken.

We want to ensure that the River Edge school district is a comfortable environment for everyone, especially the students and staff. To do this, we need your help. Come to Board meetings to learn about what we are doing to better the district. Can't make a meeting but have an idea? Send me an email at my email address below. While I will defer to the chain of command for any personal issues (teachers, principals, and the superintendent), I am more than willing to listen and discuss any overarching ideas to better the community.

Together, we can make River Edge Schools the best it can be. Thank you, and may you have a wonderful summer.
